Cosy Rainy-Day Activities That Aren’t Watching Netflix

There is something about a rainy day that makes staying indoors feel a little more acceptable. The sky goes grey, the windows start tapping with rain and suddenly the idea of doing absolutely nothing sounds very tempting.

But if you have already scrolled through Netflix for twenty minutes without choosing anything, it might be time for a different kind of cosy.

Rainy days are perfect for slowing down, doing something creative and enjoying the kind of little activities that usually get pushed aside when life feels busy. You do not need a big plan or an impressive hobby either. Sometimes the nicest rainy-day activities are the simplest ones.

Colour Something Just for Fun

Colouring is a lovely way to make a quiet afternoon feel a little more intentional. Pick a page, gather your favourite markers or colouring pencils and settle somewhere comfortable with a drink nearby.

There is something very satisfying about slowly filling in a page while the rain carries on outside. You can experiment with colours, take your time over tiny details or give a completely sensible scene a slightly ridiculous colour palette. The best part is that there is no pressure to be good at it. It is simply something enjoyable to do with your hands while your brain has a little rest.

Make Yourself an Overly Cosy Drink

A rainy day is an excellent excuse to make a drink that feels slightly more special than usual. Hot chocolate with far too many marshmallows, a fancy coffee, a pot of tea or even something simple served in your favourite mug can instantly make the afternoon feel cosier.

Pair it with a snack you actually look forward to and suddenly staying indoors feels less like being stuck inside and more like a very small event you planned for yourself.

Start a Tiny Creative Project

You do not need to begin a six-month craft project just because it is raining. Try something small instead. Make a bookmark, doodle a page of silly characters, decorate a journal spread, try origami or finally use the stickers you have been saving because they were apparently “too nice”.

Small creative projects are perfect for rainy days because they give you something to focus on without turning your relaxing afternoon into another task that needs completing.

Bake Something Simple

There is a particular kind of rainy-day happiness that comes from having something warm baking in the kitchen. It does not need to be complicated either. Cookies, brownies, banana bread or even a packet mix absolutely count.

Half the fun is the smell filling the house while you wait. The other half is obviously eating something warm while looking out at the rain and feeling very pleased with your life choices.

Read Something You Actually Want to Read

Rainy afternoons and books belong together, but reading does not have to mean tackling something long or serious. Pick up a novel you have been saving, flick through a magazine, read a few chapters of something comforting or revisit an old favourite.

The goal is not to finish anything. It is just to spend a little time somewhere other than a screen.

Have a Proper Slow Afternoon

Sometimes the best rainy-day activity is letting the day stay slow. Put on some music, tidy one tiny corner of your room, light a candle, change into your comfiest clothes and do something with absolutely no productive purpose attached to it.

You do not need to fill every spare hour with plans. A rainy day can simply be an excuse to enjoy being at home and notice the little things that make an ordinary afternoon feel nice.

At Ohmymello, we are big believers in finding a little happiness in silly, cosy and creative moments. So if the rain is tapping at the window and you fancy something cheerful to do, explore our printable colouring pages, colouring bundles and books and find a whimsical scene to bring to life.
